Voter ID

If you are a first-time voter who registered by mail and did not provide ID with registration application, you must have ID at the polls when you vote.  Photo and non-photo ID are accepted, including-
  • A driver’s license or government issued ID (ex: passport, state ID card)
  • A pay stub, bank statement, utility bill, or other government issued document with your name and address on it.
If you are already a West Virginia voter, you do not need an ID. However it is a good idea to bring ID to the polls when you vote.

Provisional Ballots

What is a Provisional Ballot?

The right to a provisional ballot is part of the 2002 Help America Vote Act .
It gives you a second chance to cast their vote on Election Day if you are denied a regular ballot for reasons such as
  • Your name does not appear on the voter rolls
  • You have a problem with their voter identification, or
  • You are at the wrong polling location.
